THE SCIENTIST IN PISCO
- a miniature opera about electromagnetism, interference and lost noise
“In a small village in Chile called Pisco, a group is spending time together on a grape farm during the solar eclipse summer 2019. A collection of students, scientists and artists are joining The School of Intuition. Once morning during breakfast, one scientist, let’s call him S and one artist, are talking together. ´Electromagnetism, interference, lost noise´ are words flying through the air. S says: “Some of the noise you hear in Radio and TV, is stemming from the big bang…“ (from the intro of The Scientist in Pisco)
The Scientist in Pisco was performed by and developed in collaboration with:
Eva Pfitzenmaier: vocals / electronics
Ole André Farstad: el-guitar / electronics
Nico Trompe: recorded voice
Andrea U. Toft : video edit
Maia Urstad: concept and composition
The content is based on a conversation* between physicist David Órdenes Duarte, curator AnaRosa Ibanez and artist Maia Urstad, as well as excerpts from the book "Earth Sound Earth Signal: Energies and Earth Magnitude in the Arts" by Douglas Kahn. *The conversation took place during a stay in Pisco, Valle de Elqui in Chile 2019, which was organized by the XIV Bienal de Artes Mediales, Santiago de Chile 2019.
